Arzachena has a very ancient history, as demonstrated by the distinctive Mushroom Rock, which probably provided shelter to the local population during the pre-Nuragic period.

A few kilometres away, you can visit archaeological sites of remarkable interest, including the Li Muri necropolis, the Nuraghe La Prisgiona and the Giants’ Tomb of Coddu ’Ecchju, an ancient collective burial site used by the area’s inhabitants.

The tour also includes a stop in Luogosanto to visit one of Gallura’s most evocative rural churches. The Church of San Trano stands on a granite outcrop surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and offers magnificent views across much of northern Gallura. It is dedicated to the hermit saint believed to have lived around the fifth century.

The itinerary includes Baja Sardinia and its charming square, surrounded by hotels, welcoming cafés and boutiques, followed by Poltu Quatu—meaning “hidden harbour”—a picturesque village created in 1987 within a secluded inlet framed by distinctive rock formations.

Also known as “Sardinia’s Barceloneta”, or “Little Barcelona”, Alghero is one of northern Sardinia’s most fascinating cities. Its Spanish fortifications, ancient walls and imposing towers bear witness to centuries of Catalan influence.

The first stop on the tour is the spectacular Neptune’s Grotto. After lunch in a traditional local restaurant and some time to relax, the journey continues through Alghero’s famous historic centre, with its picturesque stone-paved streets, artisan workshops, cafés and restaurants.

The excursion concludes with a visit to the Basilica of the Holy Trinity of Saccargia, one of the most important medieval monuments in Sardinia.

Once known as a habitat of the Mediterranean monk seal, the Bue Marino Caves are now one of the most popular attractions for visitors to the Baronia region.

When sea conditions do not allow the boat crossing, the itinerary can instead include the Ispinigoli Cave, home to one of Europe’s tallest stalactite-stalagmite columns.

The tour also visits the centre of Dorgali, renowned for its artisan workshops and traditional products. It is the ideal place to discover and purchase shawls, cloaks, bags, wines, cheeses and other locally made specialities.

Tharros is an archaeological site of extraordinary importance. The remains of one of Sardinia’s largest Phoenician-Punic cities rise on a hill near Capo San Marco, overlooking a magnificent coastal landscape.

The tour continues to the religious village of San Salvatore and its small church, evidence of the area’s long history, from the Nuragic period through the Punic and Roman eras.

After a stop at one of the area’s unspoilt beaches, the itinerary proceeds to the Civic Museum of Cabras. The museum houses archaeological finds recovered during local excavations, including the now-famous Giants of Mont’e Prama.

One of the main stops is the Nuraghe Genna Maria in Villanovaforru. Here, beginning in the Middle Bronze Age around the thirteenth century BC, Nuragic communities built a tholos nuraghe following a trilobed plan, with three towers positioned at the points of a triangle.

The tour continues to the Archaeological Museum of Villanovaforru, located in the historic centre and home to numerous finds discovered during excavations at Genna Maria and other nuraghi in the surrounding area.

The experience concludes with visits to historic villages in the Marmilla region, offering an insight into local traditions. The evocative landscape is characterised by rolling hills interspersed with vegetable gardens, vineyards, olive groves and Mediterranean scrub.

Cagliari, Sardinia’s capital, rises between the Mediterranean Sea and its historic hilltop districts.

An essential stop is Castello, the city’s ancient fortified quarter, with elegant buildings, artisan workshops and narrow streets leading to the twelfth-century Cathedral of Santa Maria. At the foot of the district stands the monumental staircase of the Bastion of Saint Remy.

The walk continues towards the Tower of San Pancrazio and the Elephant Tower. Near Piazza Arsenale, the Citadel of Museums houses an extensive collection of artefacts recounting the island’s history.

Nearby stands the Roman Amphitheatre, built between the first century BC and the first century AD. Later in the day, the tour can continue along Poetto Beach or to the Sanctuary of Bonaria and its museum of sacred objects.
